Chisinau, 4 March /MOLDPRES/- Local administrations in the country could benefit from European grants for development and economic growth. The project concepts are to be submitted by 6 April.

Ten million euros as grants are available to municipalities in Eastern Partnership countries. The European Commission has announced the allocation of grants to speed up economic growth in localities in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The competition will take place within the EU Initiative Mayors for Economic Growth. The initiative supports city halls in developing Local Economic Development Plans (LEDP), aiming at boosting economic activity and supporting local businesses, which lead to improving local services and have an impact on job creation and inclusion of women in the labor market.

In the first phase of the initiative, completed in October 2020, over 400 town halls in the region are committed to achieving the goals of the initiative, and more than 230 plans have been designed in line with the M4EG guidelines. Sixteen pilot projects are being implemented in the region.

The second phase aims to support the implementation of local economic development plans. At this stage, the preparation of investment projects and support for pilot initiatives begins. Geographical balance will be ensured between countries and within countries, between capitals and regions.

The overall amount available in this call for proposals is ten million euros - five million euros for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia and Moldova, four million euros for Ukraine and one million euros to implement actions based on Local Economic Development Plans.
