Chisinau authorities publish alternative transport development strategy

Chisinau, 11 March /MOLDPRES/- Chisinau authorities have published the Strategy for the development of infrastructure for alternative transport in the capital for 2020-2026.

The document addresses the need to create alternative transport infrastructure, its benefits, the necessary steps and changes in the legislative field. The strategy is largely based on data collected in a survey conducted in September 2020, in which 2003 respondents participated. According to the results of the survey, 95% would use alternative transport if they had the necessary infrastructure.

The strategy provides for the creation of a network of routes for cyclists with a total length of 200 km in Chisinau; changing the attitude of inhabitants towards alternative transport; increasing the number of those who use bicycles as a means of daily transport up to 1% (6360 inhabitants); increasing the number of bicycle parking near public points of interest.

The proposals of the civil society for the improvement of the strategy could be submitted until today, and on 13 March there will be public consultations on the matter.
