Chisinau, 24 March /MOLDPRES/ - The International Olympic Committee has informed that the Olympic Games scheduled to be held in Tokyo in next summer would take place without foreign spectators.

The sports director of the Tokyo Olympic Games, Mikako Kotani, said that the foreign spectators would not be able to attend the holding of Olympic competitions because of the coronavirus pandemic, but the Japanese audience ‘’will applaud all sportspeople.’’ ‘’I want to make sure that the sportspeople will not have impression that there are only Japanese supporters. The Japanese are quite attached to fair-play and hospitability and we will encourage all sportspeople equally,’’ Kotani said. She was awarded bronze medal at the 1988 Olympic Games in synchronized swimming.

At the same time, the organizers of the Tokyo Olympic Games said they would renounce most international volunteers; exception will represent the volunteers experts and specialists on specific sports, who are to receive individual notifications.

The Tokyo Olympic Games will be held on 23 July – 8 August 2021, after they were postponed over the coronavirus pandemic last year.
