Chisinau, 29 March /MOLDPRES/- The municipalities of Cahul and Iaşi (Romania) were twinned, after on 27 March at the Iași city hall, mayors of the two localities signed an agreement in this regard.

"We are very happy and we are proud that after the capital Chisinau, Cahul is the second city in the Republic of Moldova twinned with Iasi. Beyond the affinities, which will be the basis for the development and development of projects in the cultural, economic, educational fields, it is important to send a clear message on the common desire for unification between Romania and the Republic of Moldova. Of course, this will happen when the historical and political conditions will be favorable ", Iași mayor Mihai Chirica said.

The twinning agreement between Iași and Cahul was approved by the local councils of the two cities in April last year, or, according to Mihai Chirica, the sanitary restrictions postponed the signing of the act itself, until 27 March, the day when, in 1918, Bessarabia united with Romania.

Cahul mayor Nicolae Dandiş thanked the Iași community and the leadership of Iași, the representatives of the church, the county administration and the Romanian central authorities, for their support, openness and desire to collaborate. "Contacts have been established between the representatives of the participating institutions and it has been agreed on some concrete objectives and projects that our municipalities will work on in the next period", said Nicolae Dandiş.

Cahul has signed several collaboration agreements with cities in Ukraine, Poland, Bulgaria, France, Lithuania, Latvia, Italy, but most localities that have special relations with the city called "Southern Capital" of the Republic of Moldova are from Romania.
