Moldovan Party of Socialists submit new notification to Constitutional Court

Chisinau, 30 March /MOLDPRES/ - The leader of the parliamentary faction of the Party of Socialists (PSRM), Corneliu Furculita, today submitted a new notification to the Constitutional Court (CCM), in which the magistrates were informed about the existence of a formalized parliamentary majority, which put forward a candidate for the office of prime minister.

“At present, there is a parliamentary majority in the sense of the assessments of the Constitutional Court and the Venice Commission, which clearly stipulate the impossibility to dissolve the parliament for actions which are not imputable to it,’’ Furculita said.

The Socialists make reference to the provisions of the Venice Commission’s Opinion from June 2019, which sees that ‘’if the parties representing a parliamentary majority reached an agreement on the formation of the government, such an obligation (of the head of state on parliament’s dissolution) cannot exist.’’

On 29 March, President Maia Sandu informed that she would submit a notification to CCM for the finding out of the circumstances necessary for the parliament’s dissolution. ‘’If the Constitutional Court ascertains these circumstances, then I will dissolve the parliament and we will resort to the people’s judgement,’’ the Moldovan president said.
