About 40 per cent of Moldova's schools work online over quarantine

Chisinau, 12 April /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 494 (39.84 per cent) of the general education institutions work exclusively online on 9 April, as a result of a decision by the territorial public health commissions and specialty local bodies. A number of 327 schools (26.73 per cent) work with schedule of physical participation of children from the elementary school, as well as of a contingent of 50 per cent of all pupils of the graduate forms, the Education, Culture and Research Ministry (MECC) has reported.    

According to MECC, 148 (11.94 per cent) of the institutions carry out the education process with the physical presence of pupils from the elementary schools and the pupils from the graduate forms and 271 (21.85 per cent) of the schools work with the physical presence of the pupils from in education institutions, with the strict observance of the public health norms as to the prevention and spread of COVID-19.

„On 9 April this year, because of the increase in the number cases of infection with COVID-19, another nine institutions and 72 classes from Moldova were placed in quarantine. There are 189 pupils positively tested for COVID-19 in the elementary schools, gymnasiums and lyceums and 1,853 pupils were placed in self-isolation regime. As many as 248 teachers were confirmed positive with the new-type coronavirus and 131 ones are in self-isolation. A number of 128 people out of the non-didactic and auxiliary staff were infected with the new virus and another 76 are in self-isolation,’’ the Education Ministry says.  

On 5-9 April, , three students,  two teachers and eight auxiliary staff employees were confirmed positive in higher education institutions and two were placed in self-isolation. As for the vocational education, 16 pupils, six teachers and 15 people of other staff categories were positively confirmed with the Sars-Cov-2 virus on the period 5-9 April.  

As far as the early education is concerned, 27 kindergartens and 77 children’s groups are in quarantine. There are 26 children confirmed positive with the COVID-19 virus and another 2,500 are in self-isolation. At the same time, 119 teachers were confirmed positive with the new-type coronavirus and 161 are in self-isolation. A number of 117 people out of the non-didactic and auxiliary staff were infected with Covid-19 and another 235 are in self-isolation.

The Education, Culture and Research Ministry reiterates the urge to the managers of education institutions, teachers and pupils to further observe all protection measures against the COVID-19 virus.
