Anti-hail missiles tested in Calarasi

Chisinau, 13 April /MOLDPRES/- An anti-hail test exercise with missiles of Bulgarian production Loza-2 and Russian missiles Alazani-6 took place yesterday at the anti-hail launch point in Calarasi district.

Attending the event, Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ion Perju said that currently, the hail protection system implemented in the Republic of Moldova has an efficiency of about 85% and covers about 1.665 million hectares in the country, being one one of the most efficient and least expensive, the price of one hectare of agricultural land being about three euros.

"Over one million 665 thousand ha of agricultural land in 24 districts of the country are protected from hail, due to six control points and 132 anti-hail launch points. The statistics of the last ten years shows that the effectiveness of the anti-hail works is 85-90% every year, which means that the application of the missile method allows the fight against the anti-hail phenomenon ", Perju said.

He said that the anti-hail system requires investment to be expanded and to increase the area of protected land.

In this context, Ion Garaba, director of Special Service for Active Influence on Hydrometeorological Processes in Moldova, noted the need to increase the number of employees in the system. "To ensure the efficient functioning of the anti-hail launch points, it is necessary to increase staff units for the special units in the territory", Garaba said.
