Chisinau, 14 April /MOLDPRES/- The Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC) today organized the distribution of the first batch of laptops out of a total of ten thousand, purchased within the Education Reform Project in Moldova (PRIM), supported by the World Bank.

"It is a very important event for the educational system in the country, supporting in a practical way the students from Moldova with the necessary gadgets in the online study regime, imposed by the pandemic crisis. I sincerely thank the World Bank for working side by side with the authorities of the Republic of Moldova and supporting national education. I will insist on prioritizing the education system, because only in this way can we guarantee the prosperity of this country in the medium and long term, or, for that, we need investments in intellect for the young generation that is going to take over the state. I hope that those who will come after us will be more prepared, smarter and more competent ", acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi said.

Lilia Pogolşa, Minister of Education, Culture and Research said that in the conditions created due to the pandemic, the batch is a real support for students and teachers in the country.

3.5 million dollars had been allocated for computers of the World Bank-funded project. The first part of laptops will be distributed in the districts of the country today, and the rest - next week.

In March, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research said that more than four thousand students in the country can not participate in remote education because they do not have the necessary equipment and internet connection.

PRIM is an investment loan, financed by the World Bank. The project is implemented in April 2013 - June 2020. Within PRIM, the following actions were planned: rehabilitation of the infrastructure of constituency schools and their endowment according to quality assurance standards, developed by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research; implementation of a modern training system for school managers and teachers; modernization of the Management Information System in Education, which will contribute to the elaboration of policies based on current and truthful information in the field of education; strengthening the testing and evaluation system, including the consecutive and continuous participation of the Republic of Moldova in the International Student Assessment Program. Due to the pandemic, some activities of the Program have been transferred for 2021.
