Moldova supplied with wheat until next harvest - agriculture minister says

Chisinau, 15 April /MOLDPRES/- The country is supplied with food and wheat until the next harvest, despite the agricultural year 2020 was difficult due to the drought, Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ion Perju said at yesterday's cabinet meeting.

"The country is provided with food and wheat until the next harvest. According to annual data, wheat production in 2020 amounted to about 570 thousand tons. From July 1, 2020 until today, 120 thousand tons were exported, and according to statistical data provided by the Customs Service, 37 thousand tons of wheat were imported into the Republic of Moldova. The volume of production in the country for domestic food and feed consumption is estimated at about 70 thousand tons of wheat ", said Perju.

He noted the use of the up-to-date state reserve is considered strictly appropriate for the needs of the internal market as a priority for domestic economic producers producing bakery products, in order to ensure food security of the population, subsequently, in the absence of demands - for feed. the application of guarantees and with the continuous monitoring of the main indicators of cereal products ”.

In another context, the official said that the international price of wheat is falling, as quantities of the new fruit are already contracted.

At the yesterday's meeting, the government approved a draft on release from the state reserves of 20,787 tons of wheat of 2017 for refreshening stocks with the harvest year.
