Moldovan president has meeting with Strasbourg city mayor

Chisinau, 18 April /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today met Jeanne Barseghian, the mayor of Strasbourg, the city residence of the Council of Europe. The mayor is a well-known ecologist and supporter of the green urban development and a promoter of women’s involvement in politics and local administration, the presidential press service has reported.

„I thanked Mrs. Barseghian for the support of the mayoralty of the Strasbourg city in the efficient organization of Moldovan citizens’ voting at the last year elections in conditions of pandemic, as well as for the hosting of more Moldovan students who study in this city. I hope that the young people from Moldova will return home after they end the education, in order to implement in Moldova what they studied in Strasbourg,’’ Maia Sandu said.   

The Strasbourg mayor gave assurances that she would support the good organization of the voting for Moldova’s citizens at the next ballots as well.   

„We exchanged opinions on the modern challenges faced by the European cities, on plans of development of the Strasbourg city. We discussed possibility to organize exchanges of experience between the Strasbourg city hall and Moldova’s settlements led by women, on a common platform under the umbrella of the Strasbourg city hall and the presidential institution of Moldova,’’ President Maia Sandu added.
