Moldovan head of state, Venice Commission president discuss reformation of justice, combating corruption

Chisinau, 19 April /MOLDPRES/ - The justice reform and the combating corruption were the main subjects discussed at a meeting between President Maia Sandu and President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio, held in Strasbourg today, the presidential press service has reported.
„I reiterated the principal priority of my mandate of president of Moldova – truthful reformation of justice and combating the corruption. I discussed the stages which must be covered to implement this priority, as well as the important role of the Commission’s expertise in giving the final touches to the reforms in the sector. I appreciated, in this respect, the contribution of the experts of the high-level working group on justice reform under the auspices of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, which is essential for the success of the reform which I promote,’’ the head of state said.
President Maia Sandu thanked Gianni Buquicchio for the openness with which the Venice Commission had always reacted to requests of opinions dealing with the work of the rule of law state in Moldova, as well as for his personal involvement in encouraging the changes in the justice of Moldova.
