Chisinau, 19 April /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today gave a speech at the plenary meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), in which she said that ‘’the Moldovan citizens unite and are prepared for reconstructing their country.’’

“Moldova is a small European country, which will mark the 30th anniversary of its independence in next August. A country which has all needed ingredients to succeed. I am honoured that I was elected as president of this country. Really, the recent presidential elections united all Moldovans of all ethnic groups around a major approach for a responsible, receptive government, which follows the national interest, not the personal interests. This common goal created an unprecedented wave of unity and resoluteness and namely this is my present message – the will to reform the country comes from the Moldovan citizens. Moldovans of different ages, with various political preferences united as a single nation, in order to demand comprehensive domestic transformations and namely a serious fight against corruption, the justice reform and a clean government which works for the people. I come up with this message for all Moldovans – I will do what they asked me to do,’’ Sandu said.

At PACE, the head of state noted that she wanted ‘’the citizens of Moldova to choose to return home – not because they must, but because they want this.’’

„Many speeches were given in this hall. Today, I come up with a different message for you. The Moldovan citizens want the Presidency to join its efforts with a new parliament and a new government, in order to clean the country of the vices which prevent it from developing – and I ask you for this support in this approach. And this time, the Moldovan politicians must not disappoint their people. The reestablishment of the confidence between the state and the citizens is not an easy task, but it must be fulfilled as essential condition for a happier, more prosperous nation,’’ Maia Sandu added.

The president specified that Moldova needed assistance on behalf of EU.

“Presently, my country needs help. The Moldovan citizens are determined to re-put it on the good road, so that the state works for them. The Moldovan citizens want to say with pride ‘’This is our country!,’’ the head of state said.
