Moldovan president meets Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights

Chisinau, 20 April /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu had a meeting with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatović yesterday afternoon. The meeting took place during a visit by the head of state to Strasbourg, the presidential press service has reported.

"We approached several measures needed to improve the human rights situation in the context of the pandemic: the ratification of the Istanbul Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women; fight against hate speech; expanding the coverage of health services provided to citizens and increasing the quality of these services, especially for post-Covid recovery and other measures. We also discussed the importance of access to a fair and independent judiciary and of drawing increased attention to the human rights situation in the Transnistrian region. Thus, we will be able to build a truly inclusive society in the Republic of Moldova," Maia Sandu said.

Maia Sandu thanked Dunja Mijatović for attention paid to human rights situation in the country.
