Moldova to benefit from cheaper services under Regional Roaming Agreement

14:10 | 20.04.2021 Category: Economic

Chisinau, 20 April /MOLDPRES/- Prices for roaming services in the Eastern Partnership countries are expected to fall by almost 90% by 2026, based on a Regional Roaming Agreement (RRA) which is currently being finalized with EU4Digital support.

The RRA covers the capacity of customers of mobile operators in the partner countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine) to use mobile services while visiting any of the six countries.

In February 2019, at the third ministerial meeting of the Eastern Partnership on the Digital Economy, six Eastern partner countries reaffirmed their commitment to sign a Regional Roaming Agreement. Following the final approval, the EU4Digital Telecommunications Standards Team worked on a regional initiative aimed at harmonizing international regulatory frameworks for mobile roaming services in Eastern partner countries.

In 2026, retail prices for roaming services in the Eastern Partnership countries are expected to be reduced by 87% for consumers. The overall positive impact is estimated at 4.6 million euros, which represents the difference between consumer surplus and revenue losses for mobile operators.
