Chisinau, 21 April /MOLDPRES/- The National Institute for Economic Research (INCE) today released a new issue of the quarterly Moldovan economic trends. The event presented the results that marked the socio-economic activity of the country with a review of 2020, as well as forecasts on the evolution of the national economy for 2021.

According to INCE director Alexandru Stratan, in 2020 Moldova, like the other states in the region registered an economic decline, the third in number during the previous decade (2012, 2015). "The crisis was generated not only by the internal effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, but also by an extremely unfavorable agricultural year, as well as by the transmission of the crisis in the main countries, economic partners of the Republic of Moldova", Stratan said.

The crisis has occurred in the context in which the national economy has outlined over the last ten years a general trend of moderating economic growth, showing some vulnerabilities to various internal and external shocks.

Given the current social and economic situation, the National Institute for Economic Research performed the forecast calculations of the main macroeconomic indicators for 2021. “Although we continue to be in a state of emergency, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the forecast for 2021 presents positive rhythms, determined both by the low base of 2020 and weakening the restriction measures under the COVID-19 pandemic compared to March-April 2020 ”, Stratan said.
