64 schools in Moldova operate online due to quarantine

Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/- On 26 April, following a decision of the territorial commissions for public health and local specialized bodies in education, 64 (5.16%) of general education institutions operate online, and 198 (15.97%) of schools work with a program with physical participation of primary school pupils, as well as a contingent of 50% of the total number of graduates, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC) has reported.

According to MECC, 346 (27.90%) of institutions carry out the educational process with the physical presence of primary school pupils and graduates, and 633 (51.05%) of schools operate with the physical presence of spupils in educational institutions, in strict compliance with public health rules on the prevention and spread of COVID-19.

On 26 April, due to the increase in cases of COVID-19 disease, three other institutions in the country and 37 classes have been placed in quarantine and are conducting remote studies.

“In primary, secondary and high school institutions, the number of pupils tested positive with COVID-19 is 126, and 1239 were placed in self-isolation. 103 teachers have been positively confirmed with the new Coronavirus and 89 are in self-isolation. Of the non-teaching and auxiliary staff, 51 people were infected with the new virus, and another 28 are in self-isolation ", indicates the Ministry of Education.

On 19-23 April, a student, three teachers and two auxiliary staff were positively confirmed in higher education institutions. In technical vocational education, during the reference period, five students, three teachers and seven people - from other categories of staff - were positively confirmed with the COVID-19 virus.

In early education, 12 kindergartens and 46 groups of children are in quarantine. There are 16 children confirmed positive with COVID-19 virus, and another 1188 are in self-isolation. 65 (0.51%) teaching staff were positively confirmed with the new Coronavirus. Of the non-teaching and auxiliary staff, 61 people were infected with the new virus, and another 108 are in self-isolation.

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Research urges school managers, teachers and pupils to continue to comply with all measures to protect against COVID-19 virus.
