Moldova willing closer cooperation with United Nations Industrial Development Organization

Chisinau, 27 April /MOLDPRES/- On a working visit to Austria, Moldovan Foreign Minister Aureliu Ciocoi held talks with Li Yong, Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the MAEIE press service has reported.

The officials referred to the need to expand collaboration in small and medium enterprises, develop partnerships with relevant organizations in Moldova and support platforms for innovation, entrepreneurship and technology transfer to strengthen industrial capacity in the country.

The UN official noted that at present, UNIDO assistance follows the priorities set out in the Programming Framework for inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) for 2019-2023 and aims to use coordinated and extensive international development efforts. 

Aureliu Ciocoi pointed out the government's concern for ensuring increased industrial competitiveness, market access, innovation and investment promotion, productive employment for rural communities, development of social entrepreneurship and sustainable management of energy and environment.

The two officials also approached in-depth study of the innovation ecosystem in Moldova, recently worked out, which notes that the proposed services correspond to the field and reflect the priorities of interested sides. In this context, the Moldovan official welcomed the development of the project Environmentally Friendly Technology Innovation Program for SMEs and Newly Established Enterprises in Moldova worth 50,000 dollars, funded by the Global Environment Facility and implemented by UNIDO.

UNIDO is a specialized UN agency with a mandate to promote and speed up sustainable industrial development in developing countries with economies in transition. In recent years, UNIDO has taken on an increased role in the global development agenda, focusing its work on poverty reduction, inclusive globalization and environmental sustainability.

The assistance provided by UNIDO is divided into four categories of services, namely: technical cooperation, policy analysis and consultancy services, standards development and compliance, knowledge transfer and networking. Moldova became a member of UNIDO on 1 June 1993, and cooperation with that organization is achieved through the implementation of projects implemented in our country in the economic and environmental field. The country framework program covers the period 2019-2023 and aims to promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization in Moldova, including a reindustrialization oriented towards high value-added production, intelligent specialization and efficient use of resources. With an estimated budget of 28,980,000 euros, the Program will contribute to the inclusive and sustainable industrial development of Moldova through development activities.
