Monument of national Polish poet unveiled in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 28 April /MOLDPRES/ - A monument to a great Polish writer, Adam Mickiewicz, today was set in Chisinau, due to efforts by the Embassy of Poland in Chisinau, Polish Foreign Affairs Ministry and Polish entrepreneurs in Moldova.

The monument (sculptor Veaceslav Jiglitchi) was inaugurated in front of the Adam Mickiewicz library of Polish culture and literature from the B.P. Hasdeu Municipal Library.

Attending the event were Ambassador of Poland to Moldova, Bartłomiej Zdaniuk, MPs, culture people, etc.

In his speech, Bartłomiej Zdaniuk said that the personality of Adam Mickiewicz, regarded as one of the best Romantic poets of the 19th century, represented a huge value for the Polish identity.

The monument is made in a shape in a bench on which the writer is sitting and any person is invited to take a sit nearby, to talk with the Polish classic writer.

Adam Bernard Mickiewicz (born on 24 December 1798 – dead on 26 November 1855) was a Polish poet and writer, fighter for the independence and reunification of the motherland. He is regarded as one of the best Romantic Polish poets, along with Zygmunt Krasiński, Juliusz Słowacki and Cyprian Kamil Norwid.
