Chisinau, 30 April /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today summoned a working meeting with the authorities in charge of the carrying out of the interconnection of the electric energy networks with Romania.

According to the press service of the presidential institution, representatives of the Economics and Finance Ministries, the project’s implementation unit, State Chancellery and Moldelectrica state enterprise participated in the meeting.

The head of state asked the competent institutions to give explanations about the project’s procrastination. ‘’According to the roadmap on the energy interconnection, approved by the government in 2015, the back-to-back electric station from Vulcanesti and the Vulcanesti-Chisinau power line were to be put into operation in 2019. So, we live in 2021 and the things have not even started. Besides, given that the parliament ratified the agreements on loan for the project’s financing back in 2017, the state pays interests for the servicing of these loans. These are procrastinations which cost us too much,’’ Maia Sandu said.

Also, the Moldovan president asked to undertake all measures to solve the problems on the way of implementing the project and not to allow other delays. ‘’For Moldova, this is one of the most important development projects, which is to settle the problem of dependence on the electric energy from one source. During three decades, this energy dependence was exploited by corrupt politicians, which stole energy consumers through diverse schemes and endangered the country’s energy security,’’ the head of state stressed.

The presidential will attentively monitor the way the project is carried out.
