Well-known Moldovan composer marks 70th birhday anniversary

Chisinau, 1 May /MOLDPRES/  - Composer, conductor, university professor, titular member of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences (ASM) Gheorghe Mustea marks his 70th birthday anniversary today.  

Gheorghe Mustea was born in the Mandresti village, central Telenesti district, on 1 May 1951. He studied ay the Chisinau-based Stefan Neaga music school (1966-1970), Gavriil Muzicescu Arts Institute from Chisinau (1970-1975, 1975-1980). Afterwards, he made probation at the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Dmitri Shostakovich Philharmonic from St. Petersburg (1984-1986).  

He was flautist and panpipe singer (1969-1970), musical director and conductor of the Orchestra of the Joc Ensemble of Folk Dances, teacher at the Stefan Neaga music school, conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Moldova’s National Philharmonic. Mustea is the founder, first conductor and artistic director (as of 1989) of the National Symphony Orchestra of the Teleradio-Moldova State Company. In 1999-2002, he was rector and university professor of the Music, Theatre and Fine Arts Academy from Chisinau.     

Gheorghe Mustea composed symphony music, opera music, music for soloist choir and orchestra, chamber instrumental music, light music, music for theatre and movies, etc.  

Mustea had more than 1,400 concerts in Moldova and abroad with diverse musical and artistic bands of Moldova and from other countries. The composer had annual tours with the National Symphony Orchestra of the Teleradio-Moldova State, Company, as well as other symphony orchestras to Italy, France, Switzerland  Germany, Russia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, South Korea, etc.  

In 1980, Gheorghe Mustea became laureate of the composition contest from Moscow, presenting the concert for orchestra No 1 and in 1990 – laureate of the State Prize for wuth opera on historical subject Alexandru Lapusneanu. He is People’s Artist, holder of the Order of the Republic, university professor at the Music, Theatre and Fine Arts Academy. In 2013, he was awarded the National Prize. Gheorghe Mustea is also Doctor Honoris Causa of the Balti-based Alecu Russo State University (2017).
