Romania to donate another 100,000 vaccine doses to Moldova

Chisinau, 5 May /MOLDPRES/ - Romania will provide Moldova with another donation of 100,000 vaccine doses, according to the official page of President Maia Sandu.    

Also, the Bucharest authorities approved a decision to provide to Moldova for resale 200,000 doses of vaccine per month. Thus, starting from May 2021, Moldova will be able to buy the needed quantities of vaccine out of the consignments available in Romania, at a price negotiated by the European Union.  

„I ask the government to open and announce possibility to be vaccinated for all categories of citizens, so that we immunize as many people as possible as quickly as possible. The vaccination, along with the further observance of the protection measures, represents the way through which we can return to normal. I urge you everybody to be vaccinated and give a helping hand to the joint efforts of ceasing the pandemic,’’ the head of state wrote on her page.     

„We are deeply grateful to Romania for the boundless solidarity. I thank from the bottom of my heart Mr. President Klaus Iohannis, Prime Minister Florin Citu, all Romanians for the huge assistance in these times,’’ the Moldovan president also wrote.  

According to the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry, about 133,000 people have received the first vaccine dose, or 4 per cent of the population. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 251,504 cases of COVID-19 have been registered in Moldova and 5,869 ones have died because of the complications triggered by the new-type coronavirus.
