Chisinau, 5 May /MOLDPRES/ - The law on capping the prices for oil products was promulgated by President Maia Sandu today, the presidential press service has reported.

Following a meeting of the Supreme Security Council from 26 February 2021, the head of state recommended that the parliament amends the legal framework for capping the prices. The need to cap the prices for oil products through the law comes as a result of the cartel agreements on the oil products market and inactions of the Competition Council.

„The law coming from the parliament is a weak one; it contains confuse provisions, maybe introduced deliberately there by certain MPs; yet, I ruled that it is better for me to sign it just as it is and to come up with editings following the elections. The next parliament will have to improve this law and, along with the government, to make proper order in the field,’’ President Maia Sandu said.

The head of state said that she would recommend that the lawmakers amend the provisions on the way the prices for liquid gas are capped, adjust the law to the quality standards, correct the formula used in the law, in which confusion is made between volume and mass.

„The law’s promulgation is a signal given to the players on market, aforementioned institutions and politicians which defend the interests of groups that the unjustified increases in prices and the illegal enrichment of some persons at the expense of most people are no longer tolerated. We will make proper order in the state’s institutions and will ensure the observance of the rules by everybody,’’ Maia Sandu said.
