Moldovan education ministry says 67 per cent of schools work with physical presence of pupils

Chisinau, 17 May /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 835 (67.34 per cent) of the education institutions work with the physical presence of all pupils in classrooms on 14 May, as a result of a decision by the territorial public health commissions and specialty local bodies. At the same time, 31 (2.50 per cent) schools work exclusively online, the Education, Culture and Research Ministry (MECC) has reported.

According to MECC, 83 (6.69 per cent) institutions work with physical participation of pupils in elementary schools, as well as of a contingent of 50 per cent of all the number of pupils from the graduate forms and 291institutions (23.47 per cent) work with the physical presence of pupils from the elementary schools and the pupils of the graduate forms.  

At the same time, on 14 May, because of the increase in the number of cases of infection with Covid 19, one class from Moldova was placed in quarantine and carries out the education process online.  

„There are 32 pupils positively tested for COVID-19 in the elementary schools, gymnasiums and lyceums and 430 were placed in self-isolation regime. Thirty six teachers were confirmed positive with the new-type coronavirus and 31 ones are in self-isolation. A number of 28 people out of the non-didactic and auxiliary staff were infected with the new virus and another six are in self-isolation,’’ the Education Ministry said.

On 10-14 May, only one teacher was confirmed positive in the higher education institutions.  As for the vocational education, 3 pupils, 5 teachers and one person of other staff categories were positively confirmed with the Sars-Cov-2 virus on 14 May.

‘’As far as the early education is concerned, 4 kindergartens and 28 children’s groups are in quarantine. There are ten children confirmed positive with the COVID-19 virus and another 754 are in self-isolation. At the same time, 43 teachers were confirmed positive with the new-type coronavirus and 72 are in self-isolation. A number of 38 people out of the non-didactic and auxiliary staff were infected with Covid-19 and another 76 are in self-isolation,’’ according to MECC.  

The Education, Culture and Research Ministry reiterates the urge to the managers of education institutions, teachers and pupils to further observe all protection measures against the COVID-19 virus.
