Chisinau, 19 May /MOLDPRES/- The Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment has signed Vienna Declaration on transition to sustainable mobility. It took place at the 5th Summit on Transport, Health and Environment of the Program of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, held on 17-18 May.

The main outcome of the online ministerial meeting was signing of the Vienna Declaration: more efficient development through the transition to new, green, safe, healthy and inclusive mobility and transport and the first pan-European master plan to promote cycling.

The signatory parties pledged to follow the recommendations for sustainable ecological and healthy transport, initiate environmental policies and strengthen efforts to implement the work plan for 2021-2025 of the pan-European Transport, Environment and Health Program.

The High-level Ministerial Conference is held every five years to promote cross-sectoral cooperation in transport, health and environment. The overall aim is to set the next steps to promote sustainable mobility.

According to statistics, the transport sector is responsible for 22% of Moldova's greenhouse gas emissions, being second only to the energy sector. The transport sector is the main source of air pollution, especially in urban areas, accounting for at least 86% of total emissions. Chisinau, in particular, is facing a significant increase in air pollution-related diseases.
