Chisinau, 19 May /MOLDPRES/- In Soroca, the works for the elaboration of the Feasibility and Environmental Impact Study for the construction of the Wastewater Treatment Plant have started. At the first working meeting, the sides discussed the actions to be taken in May-August 2021.

The feasibility study will be set up by a French company, with the support of a grant provided by the World Bank from the sources of the Multi-Donor Fund Europe and Central Asia for development worth about 235 thousand euros.

The study will consider the current situation on sewerage and wastewater, perform the functional analysis of Apa-Canal Soroca operator, identify the most effective options for wastewater treatment, assessing the impact on the environment.

Following the feasibility study, the World Bank could provide funding for the development of the technical project and the construction of the treatment plant. The total value of the investment needed to carry out all the activities of the project is estimated at about 11 million euros.

The lack of a treatment plant in Soroca, which would filter wastewater is considered by specialists as an "ecological bomb with a delayed effect", because for two decades household waste has been flowing directly into the Dniester River. In recent years, the authorities are looking for solutions and funding for this project.
