About 83 per cent of schools work with pupils' physical presence in Moldova

Chisinau, 24 May /MOLDPRES/ - As many as 1,029 (82.99 per cent) of the education institutions work with the physical presence of all pupils in classrooms on 21 May, as a result of decisions by the territorial public health commissions and specialty local bodies in the education sector. At the same time, 30 (2.42 per cent) schools work exclusively online, the Education, Culture and Research Ministry (MECC) has reported.

According to MECC, 66 institutions work with physical participation of pupils in elementary schools, as well as of a contingent of 50 per cent of all the number of pupils from the graduate forms and 115 schools work with the physical presence of pupils from the elementary schools and the pupils of the graduate forms.  

At the same time, on 21 May, because of the increase in the number of cases of infection with Covid 19, ten classes from Moldova was placed in quarantine and carry out the education process online. „There are 33 pupils positively tested for COVID-19 in the elementary schools, gymnasiums and lyceums and 514 were placed in self-isolation regime. Thirty one teachers were confirmed positive with the new-type coronavirus and 29 ones are in self-isolation. A number of 26 people out of the non-didactic and auxiliary staff were infected with the new virus and another eight are in self-isolation,’’ the Education Ministry said. 

On 17-21 May, only one student was confirmed positive in the higher education institutions. As for the vocational education, 4 pupils, 2 teachers and one person of other staff categories were positively confirmed with the Sars-Cov-2 virus on the concerned period.

‘’As far as the early education is concerned, 4 kindergartens and 24 children’s groups are in quarantine. There are seven children confirmed positive with the COVID-19 virus and another 654 are in self-isolation. At the same time, 34 teachers were confirmed positive with the new-type coronavirus and 54 are in self-isolation. A number of 23 people out of the non-didactic and auxiliary staff were infected with Covid-19 and another 52 are in self-isolation,’’ according to MECC.  

The Education, Culture and Research Ministry reiterates the urge to the managers of education institutions, teachers and pupils to further observe all protection measures against the COVID-19 virus.
