Joint Control Commission holds meeting in Bender

20:11 | 27.05.2021 Category: Official

Chisinau, 27 May /MOLDPRES/ - The Joint Control Commission (JCC) held a meeting in Bender today, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.

The subject proposed for the agenda by Moldova’s delegation deals with the illegal presence of the so-called ‘’border guards’’ in the Security Zone as element posing risk for the free movement and other fundamental rights of the citizens.

In an appeal to all JCC participants, Chisinau’s representatives brought arguments confirming that most incidents recently occurred in the Security Zone are triggered by the ‘’border guards’’ subordinated to Tiraspol.

The 11 May tragic incident from Rascaieti pointed out that the illegal activity of ‘’border guards’’ in the Security Zone is not only an abstract infringement of the 21 July 1992 ceasefire agreement, but also a destabilizing factor which generates losses of human lives, the document reads.

On 24 May 2021, military observers, while making a trip planned in the Security Zone, found out the appearance of a new team of ‘’border guards,’’ set in a newly repaired headquarters in the Teiu settlement, Grigoriopol district. The showing of this fact in the weekly report of the Joint Military Command was hindered by Tiraspol’s representative.

Given that the Transnistrian side constantly blocks the taking of a decision within JCC on the ‘’border guards,’’ Moldova’s delegation asked for the support of representatives of Russia, Ukraine and OSCE Mission, in order to resume the consideration of this issue with the objective assessment of the situation and setting measures which are to remove from the Security Zone all structures non-attached to the Joint Peacekeeping Forces.

For reasons that the agenda was not approved after hours of discussions, the ordinary meeting of the Joint Control Commission was postponed for the next week.

At the same time, to ensure the functionality of the groups of military observers, the Commission confirmed the appointment to office of a representative of Ukraine and two ones on behalf of Russia, who come to replace the military observers, whose office mission has ended.
