Chisinau, 31 May /MOLDPRES/ - The EU Green Week starts today – a period which marks the European states’ efforts to protect the environment and of ecological rethinking of the human life and activity, the presidential press service has reported.

This year, the title of the EU Green Week is Zero Pollution – a commitment to reduce the degree of pollution of the environment. Moldova’s Presidency, led by head of state Maia Sandu, joins the messages #EUGreenWeek, ‘’ as we care about the state of the environment in our country, about the foundation on which we edify the life of the next generations.’’

„The pollution affects everybody. It penetrates the water which we drink, the air which we breathe, the soil from which we feed ourselves. We can no longer make abuse of these vital resources. The state must introduce policies which defend the environment, without discouraging the economic activity. We need programmes on afforestation and proper management of the water resources, recycling of waste, as well as strict measures of preventing the pollution. These subjects must become priority for Moldova’s parliament and government,’’ President Maia Sandu’s message reads.

The head of state noted that each of us can contribute to reducing the pollution. ‘’I, for instance, have chosen, for several years, to separate the plastic and glass from the degradable waste. I want to believe that each one’s effort can lead to better things. Our future well-being depends on the care we show towards the environment at present,’’ Maia Sandu stressed.
