Chisinau, 8 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today paid a working visit to the western Ungheni district. The head of state met more mayors and councilors, teachers, physicians and entrepreneurs from this district, the presidential press service has reported.

„We discussed the effects of the pandemic and the march of the vaccination campaign. The teachers shared with me the problems of the online education and we discussed how we can ensure a sufficient number of teachers in schools. We talked about development and infrastructure projects carried out in settlements from the district. The budget for these interventions must be supplemented from external funds – which is possible due to the support our country is enjoying at present – yet, the projects should be allocated and implemented correctly,’’ Maia Sandu said.

The visit by the head of state continued at the Ungheni free economic zone, where she discussed with residents the need to extend the sales markets, cease the illegal controls and remove the monopolies from the economy. ‘’I said that I would pay attention, in my mandate, to infrastructure projects with major economic impact. Such examples would be the construction of a bridge across the Prut river in Ungheni, which will give entrepreneurs from Moldova access to new sales markets and development of new business partnerships,’’ the Moldovan president noted.

In the context, the head of state stressed that, to get financing for such far-reaching projects from our partners, Moldova must observe some conditions: first of all, a fair justice and removing corruption from the political system. ‘’Nobody will give us money for development, if he/she sees that the money is stolen and thieves give morality lessons at large. The people want a respected country, a country with which they are proud and where the work brings them prosperity,’’ President Maia Sandu said.

Today afternoon, the head of state went to the Cornesti town, where she met several hundreds of local residents and from neighouring villages. ‘’People want to develop their native communities, to have enough physicians and teachers, jobs and higher pensions. We are obliged to do our utmost to fulfill these expectations. We discussed also the tourist potential of the region – a small investment in the repair of several local roads might boost the development of tourism in the picturesque zone of Cornesti,’’ the president added.
