Chisinau, 17 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Material Reserves Agency (ARM) of the Interior Ministry (MAI) has started the distribution of the diesel provided by Romania to Moldova, meant for the farmers hit by the 2020 drought.
According to ARM director Gheorghe Tretiacov, as of 14 June, the Agency started distributing the diesel to farmers who demanded quantities smaller than 2,500 litres per person; the minimal quantity released is nine litres. Tretiacov noted that Moldova had received about 5,000 tons and is to benefit from another 1,000 tons till late next July. This assistance is to be distributed to 3,416 economic agents.
"So far, we have distributed 1,404 tons to 190 economic agents. These are the ones who had to receive more than 2,500 litres of diesel. It is for the first time ever when the diesel is brought to beneficiaries. Starting from 16 June, we began distributing the diesel to the economic agents which demanded smaller quantities,’’ the ARM head said.
The Material Reserves Agency, subordinated to MAI, is in charge of the reception, depositing, preservation, record and distribution of the diesel. The Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry (MADRM), through the Agency of Intervention and Payments for Agriculture (AIPA), establishes the eligible quantity of diesel for each farmer applying for humanitarian assistance, based on the application submitted to AIPA.
This humanitarian assistance is part of the package of support for Moldova’s citizens, announced by President of Romania Klaus Iohannis at an official visit paid to Chisinau on 29 December 2020 and completes other actions, among which the donation of more than 300,000 anti-Covid-19 vaccine doses, as well as medical equipment worth 2.3 million euros.
