Chisinau, 19 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu exchanged opinions with President of Italy’s Chamber of Deputies Roberto Fico and the head of the committee on foreign policy of the Italian Chamber of Deputies Piero Fassino in Rome on 18 June afternoon, the presidential press service has reported.

During discussions with the two officials, the head of state thanked for the assistance provided by Italy to Moldova in the fight against the pandemic through the Covax platform, which allowed a quicker vaccination of Moldovan citizens.

„I was happy with the interest and openness of the Italian side in more fields of common interest, such as justice, re-launching of the economy and the European agenda. We had, in this context, an exchange of opinions on the priorities on our agenda with EU. I stressed that, in the first six months of my mandate, I had managed to revive the relation with the European Union and we hope that Italy will back us in the facilitation of the free movement of our citizens based on the certificates of vaccination acceptable by the EU member states,’’ President Maia Sandu said.

The officials also discussed the importance of the parliamentary diplomacy in the more active promotion of the Moldovan citizens’ interests both in Moldova and abroad. ‘’We hope that these contacts will be resumed after the parliamentary elections. Both interlocutors expressed full support for our efforts of Moldova’s modernization and assured us that we can rely on Italy’s support in the carrying out of our European agenda,’’ Maia Sandu stressed.

During her visit to Rome on 18 June, the Moldovan president also had meetings with the Italian president and the president of Italy’s Senate.
