Head of state meets Moldovan Diaspora from Italy

Chisinau, 19 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu met more representatives of the Moldovan Diaspora from Italy on 18 June evening, on an official visit to Rome. The head of state informed them about the priorities of her mandate and answered all questions by Moldovan fellow countrymen, the presidential press service has reported.  

„We have wonderful people, no matter where they are! I made sure once again of this fact in the evening, at the meeting with our fellow countrymen who live in Rome. I was happy to see optimistic people, who are interested in the situation in Moldova and who want the things to change for the better at home. And for this, they are ready to invest in the native settlements or get involved in projects on communities’ development,’’ Maia Sandu said.  

In the discussion with the Diaspora, the sides also talked about the problems faced by the Moldovan citizens in Italy – pension, social protection, recognition of Moldovan education diplomas – as well as about the programme of business support for the people who return home. ‘’I was glad to tell them that I had just signed in Rome the agreement in the social security sector and about the fact that, along with my team, we worked out a draft law which provides for the exemption from the payment of more taxes for personal use goods brought to Moldova by Moldovan citizens from the Diaspora, who ruled to return and live at home,’’ the Moldovan president said.   

The head of state thanked all those who made time for them to come to the meeting, as well as those who watched the discussion online. ‘’I assure you that I would further work for Moldova’s development. At the same time, I urge you to necessarily go to vote – this is our chance to edify a society where everybody can work and live well at home,’’ Maia Sandu added.
