Chisinau, 21 June /MOLDPRES/ - Fourteen projects on strengthening of human rights were carried out in the Transnistrian region during 2020-2021, due to Sweden’s support, provided through the United Nations Joint Action to Strengthen Human Rights in the Transnistrian region. As much as 73,000 dollars was allocated for this in all.

According to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the projects carried out contributed to the consolidation of the observance of the rights of the people with disabilities, rights of children, Romanies, people living with HIV, women and children from vulnerable groups, survivors of the domestic violence from both banks of Dniester.

„Decision-makers created here services of legal orientation of people living with HIV and trained paralegal specialists among people living with HIV. At the same time, diverse social services were supported for vulnerable families and elderly people,’’ UNDP said.

One of the projects financed, implemented by the Russian consortium, OSORC Resource Centre (Tiraspol) and SOS Autism (Chisinau) for the first time ever used the international methodology of early assistance of children with autism and their families –ADOS-2. Due to the assistance of Sweden and UN, the entire necessary set of instruments for diagnosis (questionnaires, methodological guides) was  purchased. Till then, children with autism were not able to be diagnosed and neither could they benefit from specialized assistance. Now, the methodology is applied and till late 2021, at least 20 children from the left bank of Dniester will be evaluated and assisted.

Another project, developed by the family Federation for World Peace and Unification and the NGO От равного к равному” (From Equal to Equal) (Parcani village, Transnistrian region) prepared the process of piloting the Staff Assistance service, meant for children with severe disabilities from the left bank of Dniester.

UNDP announced a new grants appeal within the United Nations Joint Action to Strengthen Human Rights in the Transnistrian region. The contest will end on 30 July 2021.
