Chisinau, 21 June /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today had a meeting with President of Poland Andrzej Duda, during an official visit to Warsaw, at an invitation by her Polish counterpart, the presidential press service has reported.

The head of state thanked President Andrzej Duda for openness to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries and for the assistance provided by Poland to Moldova in 2020 in the fight against the pandemic – both directly and through EU institutions. ‘’We appreciate Poland’s support for our country’s European aspirations and for the backing to include Moldova in European assistance programmes. At the same time, I thanked for Moldova’s inclusion in the list of the states recipients of Polish development assistance. We rely on this consistent support in the long run as well and we hope to jointly develop cross-border projects, including with other neighbor countries,’’ Maia Sandu stressed.

The Moldovan president expressed confidence that the two states had a good cooperation potential at the bilateral level as well, in such sectors as agriculture’s modernization, digital transformation of public services, local development and cyber security. ‘’Besides, due to Poland’s Solidarity Fund, which carries out numerous projects in Moldova, including in the agriculture and local development fields, Poland is for us a model of efficient support of local public authorities. It is necessary for us to consolidate, from now on as well, the exchange of good practices between the local public authorities of Moldova and Poland,’’ the Moldovan president noted.

For his part, President Andrzej Duda said that Poland would continue supporting all democratic reforms and processes in Moldova. ‘’We share the feelings for these nearing elections to result in the election of the parliamentary majority which will allow stabilizing the country in the long run and carrying out reforms necessary for the economic development, for achieving the democratic standards and edification of a rule of law state in Moldova,’’ the president of Poland said.
