Chisinau, 23 June /MOLDPRES/ - The latest rains, in fact, had a beneficial impact on the agricultural sector from the Autonomous Territorial Unit Gagauz-Yeri; yet, a part of the cereals and the sweet cherries’ harvest were practically destroyed by the heavy rains.
According to the head of the principal department for the agro-industrial sector from the Gagauz autonomy, Andrei Dimitrioglo, ‘’the barley and wheat plantations were worst hit.’’
“Most of the cereals can still be saved; yet, if the rains continue, the losses will be considerable. The cereals will be laid down and will rot because of much moistness,’’ Dimitrioglo said, cited by www.gagauzinfo.md.
He noted that more producers of the region, who cultivate sweet cherries, had lost tens of tons of fruits and ‘’if the rains do not stop, then the harvest of apricots and cherries will be compromised too.’’
Contacted by MOLDPRES, a chief consultant of a department from the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry, Ghenadie Rusu, said that presently data from the territory showed that farmlands had been hit by rains in 38 settlements from 17 districts. About 3,000 hectares of crops were compromised in all, among which wheat, maize, sunflower, barley, etc.
For its part, the State Hydrometeorological Service announced air temperatures of up to +33 Celsius degrees for this week and rains of different intensity in the central and southern Moldova, thunderstorm ones in places.
