Square in memory of departed Moldovan silviculturist created in Moldova

Chişinău, 20 July /MOLDPRES/ - A square, Alexei Palancean, was inaugurated at the Codrii (Forests) Nature Reserve in the memory of a departed PhD in biological sciences, specialists in the sector of dendrology and forestry.  

„We want this square to have a special contribution to the residents’ ecological education, through the change of the collective mentality in relation to the environment, as the environmental protection has become a fundamental priority in the government’s agenda and represents an index of a state’s culture,’’ a state secretary at the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry (MADRM), Valentina Tapes, has said.  

According to the official, Alexei Palancean was a scientific researcher who  distinguished himself both in Moldova and abroad, as an honorary member of the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences Gheorghe Ionescu from Bucharest. ‘’He is the mentor who invested knowledge in tens of generations, with a significant contribution to the promotion of the principles of biodiversity’s conservation,’’ Tapes said.

Alexei Palancean was born in the Tudora village, Stefan Voda district, on 29 March 1950. He graduated from the Sylvo-Technical Institute from Lviv, Ukraine, in 1970. Afterwards, Palancean trained for his doctor’s degree at the Botany Institute of the Academy of Sciences from the USSR in Leningrad (1975-78). Palancean died on 19 March 2020.    

Alexei Palancean published about 100 scientific works, monographs, booklets. He actively participated in the programme on soil’s conservation, strategy of sustainable development of the national forestry sector, Forest Code, technical norms and guides in the forestry field. He was awarded more state distinctions and specialty prizes.
