United Nations Moldova 2020 Country Results Report made public

Chisinau, 22 July /MOLDPRES/ - The United Nations Organization (UNO) in Chisinau has launched the UN Moldova 2020 Country Results Report. The document includes the main tendencies of development, progress made and achievements recorded by UN and its partners in backing Moldova to achieve its national priorities and goals established in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.    

The document also identifies the key constraints and lessons learned in the process of implementation of the Framework of Sustainable Partnership for Sustainable Development for 2018-2020, giving a general picture about Moldova’s priorities and ambitions for 2021.  

Under the report, in 2020, the United Nations Organization in Moldova continued supporting the country in the implementation of its priorities of development and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The UN made progress in all the four strategic directions of its work, through: promoting the human rights and the gender equality and strengthening the institutional and governance capacities; improving the access to decent work and improving the local services and infrastructure; improvement of the quality of education, health services and social assistance; promotion of the development resilient to climate changes.   

“The United Nations Organization had an important contribution to the national efforts of response and recovery from Covid-19, backing the country in consolidating the health system, in order to approach the effects of the pandemic and also ensuring the continuity of education and social services, providing, at the same time, direct assistance to the most vulnerable groups of the population,’’ the report reads.

Also, in 2020, the UN country team provided the government with support in preparing its first National Voluntary Review of the progress made in the implementation of SDGs and assistance in revising the draft Moldova 2030 National Development Strategy, which once entered into force, will serve as framework for Moldova’s development till 2030. At the same time, resources worth over 27 million dollars were provided to implement its joint working plans for 2020, of which 73.4 per cent were implemented and the rest are continued this year.    

The UN country team is made up 23 representatives of funds and programmes, specialized agencies and other United Nations entities working in Moldova.
