Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2 virus alerady spreads in Moldova, Health Ministry says

Chisinau, 23 July /MOLDPRES/ - The laboratory from Germany gas confirmed the presence of the Delta variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Moldova. The Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry (MSMPS) made statements to this effect today.

According to the MSMPS, the laboratory of the National Public Health Agency (ANSP) today received the results of the samples sent to the Berlin-based Institute of Virology as regards the monitoring of the spread of the COVID-19 variants by ways of molecular biology and sequencing.

The results show that 12 out of the 15 samples shipped were confirmed with the Delta variant. In the context, the virology laboratory of ANSP continues selecting biologic samples for monitoring the spread of new variants of the SARS COV-2 virus.

Specialists say that the B1617.2 (Delta) or the Indian variant has a twice higher degree of infectiousness against the initial variant and is by 60 per cent higher against the Alpha variant, known as the British variant.

In the context, MSMPS urges the residents to observe all measures approved by the health sector authorities and reiterates that the vaccination is the only solution to prevent the infection with COVID-19.
