Moldovan speaker meets EU envoy

Chisinau, 4 August /MOLDPRES/- Speaker Igor Grosu met today with Ambassador of the European Union to Chisinau Peter Michalko, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.

The EU official congratulated him on election as speaker and voiced confidence that he will have a successful mandate for the good of the citizens.

The discussions focused on the priorities of the new Legislature, the evolution of the implementation of the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, the consolidation of cooperation in several sectoral areas and other topical issues. Igor Grosu thanked the Ambassador on behalf of all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova for the constant help given to our country, especially during this difficult period.

Thanks to the assistance provided by external partners, our country has got generous donations to the health system as medical equipment for the prophylaxis and treatment of Covid-19. Also, through the COVAX platform, in the country we have vaccines approved by the WHO, so that any citizen who wants to be vaccinated can do so today.

Another topic was related to the unprecedented economic support from the EU - 600 million-euro- economic recovery plan for a three year period. The speaker assured the European official that the new Parliament will do everything in its power to ensure that Moldova benefits fully and as soon as possible from the economic recovery plan. At the same time, the new legislature is committed to implement the entire reform agenda necessary for the lasting development of the Republic of Moldova, and as priorities are: pandemic crisis management; recovery of economic consequences and reform in justice.

"The legislature has a duty to adopt clear laws to prevent and fight corruption. The new Parliament urgently needs to correct the laws previously voted by a group of thieves, which legalized corruption schemes. We must adopt good laws for honest people ", Grosu said.

In the end, the speaker wished success to Peter Michalko on the end of his term in the Republic of Moldova.
