Obituary ANDREI STRÂMBEANU

Chisinau, 5 August /MOLDPRES/- Andrei Strâmbeanu passed away - poet, prose writer, playwright and screenwriter, outstanding personality of the national culture. He manifested himself as a distinct voice in the literature and theater of the Republic of Moldova, his work being translated into several languages.

Andrei Strâmbeanu was born on August 25, 1934 in Fântâna Albă village, Bălți county (today Edineț district).


During his life he worked as translator, editor, advisor at the Theater Department of the Ministry of Culture. He was a member of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova (1998-2001), presidential adviser and member of the Writers' Union of Moldova.

For his prodigious activity in culture and for his civic involvement, Andrei Strâmbeanu was awarded Mihai Eminescu medal and Order of the Republic and was the winner of the National Prize of the Republic of Moldova and the Ioan Luca Caragiale Prize for dramaturgy of the Romanian Academy and others. He has also won the National Drama Competition five times over the years.
