Moldovan writer buried today

Chisinau, 7 August /MOLDPRES/- Poet, prose writer and playwright Andrei Strâmbeanu, winner of the National Prize of the Republic of Moldova and of the I. L. Caragiale for dramaturgy of the Romanian Academy, holder of the Order of the Republic was buried today.
President of the Writers' Union of Moldova, Arcadie Suceveanu, said that Andrei Strâmbeanu was a remarkable presence in our culture, an unmistakable character in our agora of letters.
The ex-president of the country, Mircea Snegur, the Minister of Culture, Sergiu Prodan, the academician Mihai Cimpoi, the director of the Mihai Eminescu National Theater, Petru Hadârcă, the director of the Satiricus Caragiale National Theater, Alexandru Grecu, the actor and director Vitalie Rusu delivered speech.
In 1998-2001 he was a deputy in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
Andrei Strâmbeanu was awarded the Mihai Eminescu medal (1997), the Order of the Republic (2011), the National Prize of the Republic of Moldova and the I. L. Caragiale for dramaturgy of the Romanian Academy (2008).
In 1979, 1981, 2001, 2002 and 2004 he became the winner of the National Drama Competition.
Writer Andrei Strâmbeanu passed away on August 4, at the age of 86.
He was buried at the Central Cemetery on Armenească Street in Chisinau.
