Chisinau, 9 August /MOLDPRES/- Twenty-five firemen from Moldova with four technical units went to Greece this morning to help the Greek rescuers in extinguishing the large-scale fires that this country is facing.
"We analyzed the situation, we evaluated our possibilities and we decided that a number of rescuers from our country should go to help our Greek colleagues. It is a rather complicated mission, but I have full confidence in my colleagues they will face all the trials and will return home healthy ", said Mihail Harabagiu, head of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU).
The event was also attended by Ana Revenco, Minister of Internal Affairs, who said it was an honor to begin her term with such an important decision. "This is the first time that the Republic of Moldova will participate in such a mission, as a result of a Moldovan-Greek bilateral agreement. We have good, experienced specialists who will be of real use to our colleagues in Greece who are facing the element of fire. There were cases when Moldova received the help of colleagues from other countries, so it's time for us to be with the states that have reached a stalemate ", said Ana Revenco.
"Working together, we will be able to diversify services, strengthen entities, strengthen international partnerships. The calamities do not know the borders and do not stop at the borders, that is why we must be prepared for any extraordinary situation that presents danger for life and economy ", Ana Revenco said.
Last week, a company from the Republic of Moldova sent five helicopters to Turkey to participate in the firefighting operation in the southern region of the country. The announcement was made by Moldovan Ambassador to Ankara Dmitri Croitor. The flight crews included citizens of the Republic of Moldova.
Lately, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Bulgaria are facing devastating fires, amplified by the heat wave.
