Rescuers monitoring Comrat lake - risk of flooding

Chisinau, 9 August /MOLDPRES/- In Gagauzia, the works for the fortification of the protection dam at the lake near the city of Comrat continue, in order to prevent the overflow of water and to avoid crisis situations, caused by bad weather.

According to the Regional Directorate of Exceptional Situations, yesterday five specialized technical units of local public authorities worked on site to strengthen the protection dam, and employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) monitor the water level in Lake Comrat.

"According to the recorded data, the activities to prevent the risk of water spills lasted over 16 hours on an area of 1500 m2, the dam being strengthened in height from 25 to 30 cm, and in some areas up to 50 cm," IGSU said.

Also, IGSU specialists continue to monitor the water level in the water basins in Dezghingea and Bugeac village, Gagauzia. Rescuers will continue to monitor and coordinate the situation in Comrat.
