Moldovan speaker meets Romanian envoy

Chisinau, 9 August /MOLDPRES/- Speaker Igor Grosu met Romanian Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ionita today, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.

The diplomat sent the speaker a congratulatory letter from President of the Romanian Senate Anca Dragu. Daniel Ioniță said "the result of 11 July elections represents a great chance to register the Republic of Moldova on an irreversible European path".

The discussions between Igor Grosu and Daniel Ioniță focused on the evolution of bilateral relations between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, as well as the priorities of the new Legislature. Grosu said that the Parliament has an ambitious agenda, and among the priorities are the fight against corruption and ensuring a rule of law.

Grosu thanked Romania for significant contribution and humanitarian assistance offered to fight the Covid-19 pandemic. "In the pandemic, Romania was the first to jump to our aid," he said. Only in the last two years, imposing batches of equipment, tests, materials and medicines necessary for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic have arrived in Chisinau. Romania has also become the largest individual vaccine donor for Moldova.

The sides also broached projects due to be implemented with the support of the Bucharest authorities. They discussed the stage of the energy interconnection project between our country and Romania and the Iasi - Ungheni - Chisinau gas pipeline.
