Chisinau, 11 August /MOLDPRES/- Another batch of 26,500 doses of AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria) vaccine arrived in Chisinau today and is to be distributed proportionally in the more than 500 vaccination points in the country. The batch of vaccines was provided free of charge by Lithuania through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.

"The support of international partners, offered to the Republic of Moldova in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, is more than a gesture of solidarity and unconditional friendship. We thank Lithuania for this batch of 26,500 doses of vaccine, which will contribute to the immunization campaign through which we can change the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this pandemic, no one is safe until everyone is safe. Therefore, we urge all people who have not yet managed to get vaccinated, so that together we can build a wall of defense against the virus to protect their health and life, " Secretary of State of the Ministry of Health Svetlana Nicolaescu said.

"Lithuania has allocated 200 thousand doses of vaccine against Covid-19 for the Eastern Partnership countries, of which 26.5 thousand doses for the Republic of Moldova. It is not only a form of assistance for neighboring countries, but also an act of solidarity against the background of an epidemiological threat caused by COVID-19. Lithuania has always helped Moldova and is ready to provide support in the coming period, " Lithuania's ambassador to Chisinau Kęstutis Kudzmanas said.

On August 9, the Republic of Moldova received a batch of 30,000 doses of AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria) vaccine, donated by Latvia. Thus, since the beginning of the immunization campaign, 570,100 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine have arrived in Chisinau, being stored and distributed by the National Agency for Public Health.

According to experts, the AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria) vaccine is 100% safe and effective against severe forms and deaths. It is administered to people aged 18 and over, intramuscularly with two doses at an interval of 4 and 12 weeks.

To date, 1,111,680 doses of vaccine have been administered in our country, and 545,219 people have completed the complete immunization schedule.
