Chisinau, 18 August /MOLDPRES/- Apricots produced by a company from the Republic of Moldova arrived in the Netherlands. Export was possible under the Program of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) High-Value Agriculture in Moldova (APM).
“It is a new experience for a local company, which managed for the first time to export the first fruit truck to the Netherlands. Thus, due to the intense work and the assistance offered to the novice exporters of the USAID APM project, the Moldovan apricots arrived on a new market in the European Union ”, indicate sources from USAID.
Dutch buyers are interested in developing trade relations with Moldovan fruit producers, and as a result of several virtual tours, online and direct trade missions to Moldovan orchards, Dutch importers have shown interest in Moldovan fruits.
“European buyers emphasize the quality and good agricultural practices observed in the production process. This year, due to the efforts of agricultural producers, Moldova Fruct and USAID, for the first time apricots produced in Moldova reached commercial networks in Germany, France, Hungary, and more recently, in the Netherlands. The geography of fruit exports produced in Moldova is expanding because the taste makes a difference ", concluded the quoted source.
Even if in 2020 a small quantity of apricots was exported to Romania, Poland and Lithuania, the export potential of Moldovan apricots in the EU is not used and 85 percent of apricot deliveries produced in the Republic of Moldova is directed to the CIS market.
Although apricot is a promising crop with high potential for marketing on export markets, in the Republic of Moldova apricot orchards constitute only 4.75 thousand hectares, of which 3.8 thousand are fruitful, located mostly in the southern areas, southeast and center. The harvest obtained in 2020 was 6.5 thousand tons, of which two thousand tons were exported.
