Moldova, Lithuania to sign agreement on conversion of driver's licences

Chisinau, 25 August /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved the signing of the agreement between the governments of Moldova and Lithuania on the conversion of driver’s licences. The document’s goal is to improve the road transport’s security and facilitate the road traffic between the two countries, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
After a string of negotiations, the sides agreed on the conversion and recognition of the driver’s licences of the categories A and B. So, the holder of the driver’s licence issued by the authority of one of the contracting sides, who sets his/her residence on the territory of the other side, has right to convert the driver’s licence without taking theoretical or practical exams.
The agreement’s provisions will give Moldova’s citizens, who are permanently or temporarily settled in Lithuania, a string of benefits, such as exemption from additional schooling and examination at the conversion of the driver’s licences and the spending related to this process, free movement in international traffic, including through the facilitation of labour contracts.
The document is to be approved for an indefinite period and will enter in force for Moldova following the fulfillment of the national procedures of enforcement.
