Top European bank to back Economics Ministry in carrying out projects for developing national economy

Chisinau, 25 August /MOLDPRES/ - Economics Minister Sergiu Gaibu today met the head of the Office of the Resident Representation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Moldova, Angela Sax. The officials tackled subjects on the support of micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises, attraction of foreign investments and carrying out reforms aimed at ensuring the economic development.  

The sides also referred to the need to revise the financial instruments for easier access to financial for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as to the working out by EBRD of a new country strategy for Moldova, which will guide the investment and the political activity of the banking system in Moldova in the next five years, the Economics Ministry’s (ME) press service has reported.  

Sergiu Gaibu highly appreciated the efficient cooperation with EBRD and thanked for the support provided to carry out the governmental projects and back the business environment from Moldova. The minister also informed the EBRD mission about the ME’s priorities due to be carried out this year, in the context of implementation of the government’s action plan for 2021-2022.  

„BERD is a reliable partner of Moldova and the support provided in the process of implementing investment projects is of major importance. The consolidation of the business environment, attraction of foreign investments, creation of well-paid jobs, the national economy’s digitalization, exports’ promotion, fulfilling the sustainable development goals and the green economy remain among the principal priorities of the ministry I have the honour to lead. We further speak out for strengthening the bilateral relations and rely on EBRD’s openness for the carrying out important projects, meant to contribute to the development of the country’s economy,’’ Minister Gaibu said.  

For her part, Angela Sax reiterated the support for the new governance, appreciating the promising agenda of the new cabinet. At the same time, EBRD will contribute, in continuation, logistically and financially, to the carrying out investment projects in Moldova.

The Office of the EBRD Resident Representation in Moldova help to implement 145 projects, of which 52 active ones, the portfolio of which amounts to 616 million euros, in such strategic sectors as infrastructure, financial institutions, industry, trade and agro-business.
