Moldova's president says leadership to continue efforts aimed at modernizing national defence system

Chisinau, 2 September /MOLDPRES/ - President, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Maia Sandu today participated in an event on marking the 30th anniversary of the National Army’s foundation, the presidential press service has reported.  

The head of state congratulated the entire strength of the National Army – those who stayed at the basis of the institution three decades ago, as well as those who presently ensure the state’s security. The Moldovan president also paid homage to the veterans of the National Army and the heroes who died in battles for the country’s independence and integrity.  

In her addressing to servicemen, Maia Sandu said that, in the 30 years, the Army’s institution had witnessed more stages of reformation and reorganization. ‘’This is a process which has not finished as yet and which we should give a new impetus, in order to have a modern, professional and endowed army, which we everybody want and on which we can rely,’’ President Maia Sandu said.  At the same time, the head of state noted that, in the reformation process, the most important resources of the Army represents people, which must have the conditions necessary for an efficient service, access to continuous training and should be promoted to offices according to merits. Simultaneously, the Armed Forces must be provided with advanced military technology and weaponry.         

„These are the priorities of the moment and, in my capacity of Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, I will continue backing the efforts aimed at modernizing the national defence system,’’ President Maia Sandu said. As for the expectations from the Army, they deal with professionalism, discipline, correctness and devotion to the Motherland. The army must be prepared to unconditionally fulfill its tasks at home and abroad and serve the country and the people, not political parties or group interests. These are key elements, in order to enhance the prestige of the military service and the profession of military, making them a reason for pride,’’ the president said.    

In the end, Maia Sandu wished all servicemen and civilian employees of the National Army determination and dynamism, in order to meet the challenges of the time and the professional ones. ‘’We have together an ambitious mission, which requires much work, determination and courage. I call on you to make a joint team, for the good of the country and the National Army. I am fully confident that we will succeed together,’’ President, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Maia Sandu added.
