Moldovans working in Greece to be able to get pensions from Greek state

Chisinau, 9 September /MOLDPRES/- Moldovans who have worked in Greece will be able to get pensions. An agreement in social security between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Greece was signed yesterday in Chisinau by Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Moldova Marcel Spatari and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Nikos Dendias.

The agreement aims at providing a framework of social security guarantees for migrant workers from the Republic of Moldova, who carry out or have carried out a work activity on the territory of one or both states. Under the document, the entitled persons will benefit from old-age pensions, disability pensions caused by a general illness, disability pensions and allowances caused by an accident at work or an occupational disease and survivor's pensions.

According to the agreement, each state will calculate and pay the pension in proportion to the period of insurance completed in its territory in accordance with national law.

The Republic of Moldova has so far concluded social security agreements, based on the principle of proportionality and export of social benefits with 15 states.
